Dr. Amiee Shelton is a Fulbright Scholar and a seasoned communication specialist. With over ten years of television experience at some of the largest media corporations in the United States, she brings a strong practice base to her research and teaching. Her research agenda explores the intersections of media, marketing, and culture, with a particular focus on how communication practices shape—and are shaped by—emerging technologies, consumer behavior, and generational perspectives. Her scholarship spans topics such as celebrity culture in the digital age, materialism and the de-influencing trend, the role of digital games in education, and innovative advertising strategies, including necromarketing and ambient marketing.

Her recent work includes "Redefining Fame: Gen Z’s Perspective on Celebrities in the Digital Age" ( and "Materialism and the De-Influencing Trend: Classroom Applications" (Journal of Social Media for Learning, 2024). Earlier publications examine learning through play (), the creative remediation of photogenic modes in games (Acta Ludologica, 2023), and employee participation in public relations (). Shelton has also contributed internationally recognized studies on celebrity endorsements, ambient marketing, and necromarketing, advancing scholarly conversations about the ethical, cultural, and strategic dimensions of communication.

However, her primary focus is on student development. To this end, she regularly presents with undergraduate students at peer-reviewed academic conferences, co-authors papers with undergraduates in peer-reviewed journals, and accompanies students on both domestic and study abroad programs. Widely recognized for her student-centered approach, she has been nominated multiple times for the Excellence in Teaching Award at the university and won the Mark Gould Award for teaching excellence once.

She holds the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) credential certifying her drive, professionalism, and principles. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and the Educators Academy Professional Interest Section, and has served as a Councilor in the Humanities division of the Council on Undergraduate Research. Additionally, she serves as a subject-matter expert for the American Council on Education.
